A Central London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Interim Health & Safety Lead to provide senior-level capacity during a critical period of Health & Safety improvement. This is a high-profile, strategic interim assignment focused on stabilising current activity, progressing key Health & Safety priorities, and establishing robust frameworks for future delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a clear baseline of Health & Safety maturity across the Council
  • Progress priority improvements aligned to an ISO 45001-style management system
  • Strengthen consistency, visibility and engagement across services and Directorates
  • Develop practical Health & Safety frameworks, tools and governance arrangements
  • Create a structured handover and implementation roadmap for permanent postholders

About You

  • Significant senior Health & Safety leadership experience within large, complex organisations
  • Proven experience designing, reviewing or implementing ISO 45001-aligned management systems
  • Strong track record of improving Health & Safety management frameworks and processes
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving engagement without formal authority
  • Ability to deliver results quickly within a time-limited interim assignment
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and facilitation skills
  • Methodical approach to documentation, governance and handover planning
  • Public sector or local government experience is highly desirable
