A South London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Environmental Noise & Nuisance Officer to join their Noise and Complaints team on an interim basis. This is a hands-on role suited to an Environmental Health Technician with strong investigative and enforcement experience, responsible for responding to noise and nuisance complaints and supporting senior officers in taking formal action where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate a range of noise complaints (e.g. domestic, commercial, anti-social behaviour)
- Gather evidence and prepare detailed reports for senior officers
- Support decision-making regarding enforcement action
- Handle additional environmental complaints, including bonfires and waste accumulations
- Undertake regulatory investigations in line with relevant legislation and codes of practice
Working Pattern
- 7-week shift rota
- Mix of day shifts and out-of-hours work (Thursday–Sunday)
Requirements
- Experience working in an enforcement role within a regulatory service
- Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and meet deadlines
- Strong knowledge of noise and nuisance legislation and procedures
- Understanding of regulatory codes of practice
- Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE)
- Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)
- Full UK driving licence (council vehicle provided)
