Environmental Enforcement Officer – North London – £32.50 per hour (Umbrella)

A North London Local Authority is recruiting for an Interim Environmental Enforcement Officer to support its Environmental Enforcement Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce environmental and highways legislation across the borough, tackling issues such as littering, fly-tipping, graffiti, and waste offences.
  • Investigate and take action on highways-related offences, including skips, scaffolding, hoardings, abandoned vehicles, and obstructions.
  • Carry out inspections and issue licences, warnings, notices, and fixed penalty notices where required.
  • Provide advice to residents and businesses on compliance and take enforcement action in line with council policy.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, Highways Act, London Local Authorities Act, and related legislation.
  • Understanding of PACE 1984 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  • Proven experience in investigating offences and taking enforcement action, ideally in a local authority environment.
