CSM2, a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services, has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Author. As Technical Author, your role will be to research, develop, write and review technical information and guidance for new and existing products and publications such as reports and manuals to our UK and overseas customers. This information is critical to the reputation of the business.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

  • Work with internal and external teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
  • Gather, analyse new and existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.
  • Research, organise, and present technical information in a clear, concise, and user-friendly manner.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (engineers, designers, and technicians) to gather information and ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Work on and manage multiple projects/documents simultaneously.
  • Create and maintain the information architecture and configuration control.
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Develop and maintain document templates, style guides, and other resources to improve documentation quality and consistency.
  • Create tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications.

About You

Essential:

  • Proven work experience in technical writing of documentation.
  • Excellent written skills.
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to details and descriptors.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and describe them simply in text and pictures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple documentation projects concurrently.
  • Good organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Flexible, enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and able to work well under their own initiative.
  • University degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of MoD / ship builder working practice.
  • Presentation skills and professionally presented.

Other requirements:

  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.
