Are you a Project Engineer (PE) looking for your next opportunity to help support engineering activities across In-Service Support programmes? CMS2, an established engineering business delivering critical support solutions across complex programmes, is looking for a Project Engineer to join our ISS team. In this role, you will act as the focal point for all engineering activities across In-Service Support projects and spares, working directly with the ISS Technical Manager and supporting the ISS Director and Project Managers to ensure products are delivered in line with project and product specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage any design improvement/obsolescence activities relating to the assigned projects, providing technical guidance in line with the Product Specification to the engineering resources assigned, including managing the flow of information between multiple departments.
  • Responsible for enacting changes to maintain specifications (ESS, ECS, MSS, MCS, GES, ETS etc.).
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of Product Bills of Materials.
  • Define the content of standard project documentation (technical, operation, maintenance manual etc.) for the technical author as set out by the Systems Engineer in the systems specification and P&ID.
  • Report on the technical content of the project to the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers. This includes supporting regular reviews to ensure the right approach is being followed, and that any requirements for additional expertise are addressed.
  • Identify technical risks to the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers and work on the appropriate strategies for risk management.
  • Provide technical support for the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers in customer communications during project delivery.
  • Track activities to project plans and budgets, regularly reporting to the ISS Delivery Manager, ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers on progress as required.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for all project materials.
  • Provide technical support for procurement, production and quality throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely response to action items.
  • Liaison with Production team, lead issue resolution, report progress to ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers during build/manufacturing phases.
  • Provide support to SQE and Quality team as required to resolve quality issues, including raising formal request, fault finding and test support.
  • Support engineering design as required by the project.
  • Support the business in providing information to aid the creation of proposals as required.
  • Lead testing and commissioning of equipment working with the Test Technicians and Commissioning Engineers as required by the project.
  • Support Site Engineers throughout off site work with provision of information, materials and liaison with internal resources.
  • Ensure project activities are delivered as defined by the project manager, including ensuring design reviews are held, FMEAs are conducted, and appropriate test plans are in place.

General activities

  • Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
  • Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • HND or Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or related subject.
  • Experience of working in a Mechanical / Systems engineering environment.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and able to work well under own initiative.
  • Able to build long-term successful client partnerships, both internally and externally.
  • Strong communication skills, decision-making/problem solving skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, confident speaker and professionally presented.

Desirable

  • Experience of working on multiple projects.
  • Practical competence in mechanical/systems assembly.
  • Knowledge of BS.8888 drawing practices.
  • Experience of working within a Defence environment.
  • Previous experience of an ERP system.
  • Knowledge of ISO9000 or a similar QA system.

Role travel requirements

The duties of this appointment relate to the UK but you may be required to travel when required by the Company. It is not envisaged that you shall be required to work outside the UK for more than one month.

Other requirements

  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.
