Criterion Capital is a family-owned, entrepreneurial private
property company with a growing portfolio across hospitality, residential, and
commercial sectors. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking an experienced Structural
Engineer to join our Architectural and Development team. Operating as a
developer, asset manager, and owner/operator, Criterion Capital delivers a
growing pipeline of redevelopment, refurbishment, and commercial-to-residential
conversion projects across Greater London.
You will lead structural design from feasibility through
technical design and construction, with a focus on existing building
conversions, refurbishment, adaptations, and new-build projects. Working
closely with architects, consultants, contractors, and internal development and
construction teams, you will deliver safe, cost-effective, and buildable
solutions in line with programme, budget, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead
structural design, analysis, calculations, and assessments for
redevelopment, refurbishment, conversion, and new-build projects. - Produce
and review structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and
technical reports for planning, tender, and construction. - Ensure
compliance with UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and relevant British
Standards. - Coordinate
structural design with architectural, building services, and other
engineering disciplines. - Manage
external consultants and resolve technical issues throughout design and
construction. - Identify
structural risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-effective
solutions, particularly for existing buildings. - Support
statutory submissions, building control approvals, contractor queries, and
design changes through delivery.
About You
We are looking for a technically capable, commercially aware
Structural Engineer with strong UK design experience and a practical
understanding of construction. You will take ownership of structural design,
coordinate consultants, and deliver pragmatic engineering solutions that
balance compliance, cost, programme, and buildability.
Skills & Experience
- A
bachelor's or master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil
Engineering, or a related discipline. - A
minimum of 3 years' post-graduate structural design experience, with UK
experience essential. - Experience
in redevelopment, refurbishment, building conversions, or adaptive reuse
projects. - Strong
knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and British Standards. - Proficiency
in structural design software such as MasterSeries, Robot, ETABS, or
TEDDS, alongside AutoCAD and/or Revit. - Experience
producing structural calculations, technical reports, and construction
drawings. - Strong
coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience
managing consultants and working with contractors. - Chartered
status with IStructE or ICE, or working towards chartership, would be
advantageous.
The Person
You will be a hands-on, solutions-focused engineer with the
confidence to challenge design assumptions, manage consultants, and resolve
complex structural and construction issues. You will understand the practical
challenges of working with existing buildings and deliver solutions that
balance structural integrity, compliance, cost, and programme.
Commercially aware, proactive, and detail-oriented, you will
take accountability for design quality and timely delivery while working
collaboratively across development, architectural, and construction teams.
If you are an experienced Structural Engineer with strong UK
design experience and the technical judgement to deliver redevelopment,
refurbishment, and conversion projects, we would welcome your application.
