About the position:
We are a growing startup looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance function during an exciting phase of growth. This role will be hands-on and impactful, taking ownership of the month-end close, VAT compliance, and audit support, while helping to build and improve scalable finance processes. You will work closely with the wider business and play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and submit UK VAT returns, ensuring compliance with VAT regulations and Making Tax Digital
- Maintain the general ledger and financial records within NetSuite
- Assist with year-end accounts and statutory reporting
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, supporting audit planning and responding to queries
- Help design, improve, and document finance processes and controls suitable for a scaling startup
- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and insight
- Support and mentor junior team members as the finance function grows
About You:
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA), or qualified by experience
- Strong hands-on experience with month-end close in a UK accounting environment
- Solid knowledge of UK VAT and compliance requirements
- Experience assisting with external audits
- Experience using NetSuite (essential or highly desirable)
- Comfortable working in a startup or fast-growing environment with evolving processes
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
