Are you an experienced Legal Cashier looking for the next step in your career? Do you have a strong understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules and a passion for leading high-performing teams? We are looking for an experienced and proactive Head Cashier to lead our Legal Cashiering function. This is a key role within our Finance team, responsible for ensuring all client and office account transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Finance Operations Manager, you will provide technical expertise, operational oversight and leadership to the cashiering team, acting as the primary point of contact for cashiering queries, escalations and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Cashiering Function
    • Oversee the day-to-day management of the cashiering team.
    • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of client and office account payments, receipts, transfers and financial postings.
    • Manage daily bank reconciliations and support monthly client money reconciliations.
    • Monitor workloads, priorities and service levels across the team.
    • Act as the escalation point for complex or urgent transactions.
  • Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure full compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules, AML regulations and internal policies.
    • Identify, investigate and report any breaches or compliance issues.
    • Maintain robust audit trails and supporting documentation.
    • Support internal and external audit activities.
    • Promote awareness of cyber security and fraud prevention risks.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead, coach and develop a team of Legal Cashiers.
    • Conduct performance reviews, objective setting and development planning.
    • Support the onboarding and training of new team members.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build strong relationships with fee earners, finance colleagues and external banking contacts.
    • Provide expert guidance on payments, receipts, account queries and regulatory requirements.
    • Partner with senior finance stakeholders to resolve operational issues and drive improvements.
    • Review and enhance cashiering processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
    • Identify control weaknesses and implement corrective actions.
    • Support system enhancements and process automation initiatives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience within a Legal Cashiering environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Previous leadership or people management experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong awareness of compliance, cyber security and fraud risks.
  • Experience using legal finance systems and banking platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage high transaction volumes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data, reconcile information and produce accurate financial reporting.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
