The offer:

  • A rate of pay of £14.98 per hour (£12,850 pa)
  • 16.5 hours per week worked as follows:
    • Tuesday - 14:00 to 20:00
    • Wednesday - 15:30 to 18:30
    • Thursday - 15:30 to 18:30
    • Friday - 08:00-12:30
  • 4 weeks annual leave, plus the bank holidays (pro-rated for part-time working)
  • A six-month probationary period
  • Enhanced sick pay after probation
  • Eligibility to join the NHS pension scheme

About Cricket Green Medical Practice and this opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Receptionist to join our highly supportive and skilled team, on a part-time basis. This is a temporary role to start from 1st September 2026 and end on 28th February 2027, with the possibility to become a permanent role. We are very open to applications from candidates of all backgrounds, who can offer strong customer service skills. This role is based on-site, and remote working is not available. Cricket Green Medical Practice is a forward-thinking, well established GP surgery in Mitcham, South-West London. We provide care for a patient population of close to 12,000, working alongside a multi-skilled team of 40 clinical and administrative staff, supported by four GP partners.

About the role:

You can expect a very busy but varied day, with a structured rotation of tasks that covers patient-facing reception duties as well as back-office admin tasks. Key aspects of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Being the first point of contact with patients in the GP practice on the front desk
  • Answering phone calls from patients, pharmacies and care homes and signposting patients to the best service
  • Inputting patient requests into our triage platform
  • Booking and cancelling patient appointments with the nurses, GPs or other clinicians
  • Processing prescription requests
  • Sending/book patient referrals
  • Scanning and filing incoming letters from hospitals and other services, adding information (medical codes) onto the clinical record and actioning requests from the hospital if required
  • Responding to enquiries from patients and other healthcare services

About you:

You will ideally have experience working in a similar environment, such as GP, NHS, dental or veterinary practice, or in a similar customer-facing position. You will have excellent customer service skills and the patience to deal with a wide mix of patients and enquiries. Your proven organisation skills and ability to prioritise, and willingness to muck in to serve our patients and help your colleagues, will serve you well in this fast-paced role. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn and ask questions, in order to provide accurate and helpful information to our patients at all times. You will have a good, solid knowledge of Word and Outlook, and the ability to pick up new systems quickly (with training). This appointment is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.
