About the Biological Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory: The Biological Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, led by Dr Jeannine Hess, combines inorganic chemistry, chemical biology and translational medicine to develop innovative metal-based molecules and chemical tools. The lab focuses on pioneering approaches, including targeted protein degradation, to tackle challenging therapeutic targets.
About the role: We are seeking a Senior Laboratory Research Scientist (SLRS) to join a high-impact cancer project. You will design and execute experiments, support lab operations, train colleagues and contribute to publications. This hands-on role is ideal for an experienced scientist who thrives on problem-solving, collaboration and driving cutting-edge translational research.
What you’ll be doing: You will be responsible for:
- Design, synthesise and characterise heterobifunctional molecules for protein degradation.
- Test interactions with targets using biochemical, biophysical and cell-based assays.
- Collaborate with lab members and STPs to deliver mechanistic insights.
- Plan and run experiments independently, analysing and interpreting results.
- Keep up to date with literature and contribute to publications and meetings.
About you (Minimum Criteria): You will have:
- Essential: A PhD in synthetic chemistry (organic, inorganic, or organometallic) or equivalent experience.
- Strong skills in synthesis, purification and structural analysis.
- Eager to learn new techniques and work at the chemistry-biology interface.
- Experience applying chemistry in biological systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Well organised with clear, accurate experimental records.
Desirable: Experience with biochemical or biophysical assays. Protein expression, purification and biochemistry experience.
