PURPOSE

This role exists to lead the development and delivery of a high-impact media and communications strategy that elevates the profile, reach and reputation of the sport across men’s, women’s and disability cricket.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how the sport is presented externally across all formats, ensuring a consistent and compelling narrative that reflects organisational priorities.

The role is primarily focused on England Men, but will also cover a broader range of ECB priorities - including England Women, England Disability, the professional game and the recreational game.

The chosen candidate will work in an integrated way with the broader comms team, using media and content to grow audiences, deepen engagement and enhance the sport’s visibility nationally and internationally.

  • YOU’LL BE DOING

Strategic media and communications leadership

  • Developing and delivering an integrated media and communications strategy across men’s, women’s and disability teams, aligned to organisational priorities and major events.
  • When you’re not working with England teams, you’ll help deliver wider ECB communications activity supporting the professional and recreational game.

Player and talent management

  • Supporting players, coaches and spokespeople across men’s, women’s and disability teams to engage effectively with media and digital channels to build their profiles.
  • Working within an elite sport environment, with diligence and sensitivity.

Cross-format coordination

  • Ensuring a joined-up and consistent approach to media and storytelling across all formats, balancing competing priorities and maximising impact.

Media relations and reputation management

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key media outlets and journalists, proactively managing coverage and acting as a senior point of contact on high-profile issues.

Content and storytelling

  • Leading the development and distribution of engaging, insight-led content across broadcast, digital and social platforms, ensuring a consistent tone, voice and narrative across all teams.

Event and tour media operations

  • Overseeing media operations across domestic and international fixtures and tours, including press conferences, media access, accreditations and broadcast coordination.

Campaign delivery

  • Designing and executing media campaigns that enhance the visibility of all formats of the game and grow diverse audiences.

Internal and External stakeholder collaboration

  • Working closely with Communications, Marketing, Digital, Commercial and Performance teams, to ensure aligned messaging and delivery.
  • Working closely with departments across the ECB to support all aspects of cricket – from recreational cricket to professional cricket.
  • Leading on and supporting broader comms activity relating to the professional and recreational game when required.
  • Working with key cricket stakeholders across England and Wales, and beyond.

Crisis and issues management

  • Leading media handling of sensitive or high-profile issues, ensuring timely, accurate and well-judged responses.

Please note, this role will require working over weekends and bank holidays.

  • YOU’LL HAVE
  • Extensive experience in media, communications or content roles, ideally within sport or a similarly high-profile environment.
  • Strong understanding of the UK and international media landscape, including broadcast, digital and social platforms.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering media strategies across multiple audiences or programmes.
  • Experience of managing media relations and high-profile communications activity.
  • Experience of working across complex stakeholder environments and balancing competing priorities.
  • Experience supporting or delivering media operations at major events or within live environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone across different teams and audiences.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills, including at senior level.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to work in high pressure environments with sensitivity and discretion.
  • Experience of managing and developing team members.
  • Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to operate effectively under pressure.
  • Highly organised with strong planning and coordination skills.
  • The ability to work independently, as well as a strong team ethic.
