About the role
We\’re currently looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Workplace Service Manager to join our European IT team, based near Birmingham, UK (hybrid working available). In this role you\’ll be responsible for overseeing the technical operations and management of workplace services, primarily focusing on end-user devices such as laptops, desktops, virtual desktops, printers, mobile phones, and associated technologies.
You\’ll also play a critical role in expanding the deployment of standard desktops and applications across Europe, increasing control, security, and compliance for end-user devices, and improving the workplace experience for users.
You\’ll lead and manage a team of workplace engineers and external partners to deliver efficient, secure, and fit for purpose workplace services.
Main responsibilities
In this role, you\’ll:
- Coordinate the technical delivery of workplace technology services, including packaging, deployment, and patching of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
- Take full accountability for the performance and quality of workplace services, ensuring they are delivered to meet organisational standards and user expectations.
- Proactively identify opportunities for service improvement and innovation, drive initiatives to enhance efficiency, and ensure device-related services are aligned with business goals and user needs.
- Define governance and follow-up on lifecycle management for hardware, OS images and applications, including patch management.
- Ensure the optimal user experience with workplace technologies, focusing on usability, performance, and reliability.
- Standardise desktop builds to reduce the number of different images in use, simplifying management and support.
- Monitor and manage VDI environments to ensure high uptime and reliability.
- Maintain the workplace service catalogue and monitor usage.
- Increase the level of control, security, and compliance for end-user devices, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
- Improve the digital workplace experience for users, ensuring their needs are met and issues are promptly addressed, e.g. Mobile Devices.
- Maximise the effectiveness of Microsoft 365 capabilities, improving the overall End User experience.
- Increase visibility of the end user device estate, ensuring accurate tracking and management of all endpoint devices.
- Monitor and troubleshoot device-related issues, providing prompt solutions to maintain service standards.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and trends in workplace and user experience management, incorporating relevant advancements into the organisation\’s strategy.
Experience & qualifications
To be successful in this role you\’ll need:
- An in-depth knowledge of Workplace / End User Device concepts, tools, infrastructure and capabilities.
- Proven skills in device management and endpoint solutions for laptops and mobile phones.
- Developed vendor management skills, with experience managing third-party relationships.
- Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft suite of technologies, including MS operating systems, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Co-management, Intune, Windows Autopilot, Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Excellent knowledge of software packaging, Citrix and cloud printing.
- Demonstrated experience in workshop design, preparation and leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in technical team management.
- A detailed focus on integration & standardisation (challenging the nonstandard requests).
- A good knowledge of Printing services and associated technology.
- Language: English (Fluent). Desirable: Second European Language (preferred).
- Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills with people at all levels across the organisation.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Effective negotiation skills to be able to facilitate collaboration with internal stakeholders, vendors and MSPs.
- To be prepared to breakdown organisational boundaries through collaboration and cross staffing by building strong relationships based on trust with peers.
- The ability to translate business requirements into viable technical solutions.
- The ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- A college diploma or university degree in business, information systems, or technical related subject.
- Technical experience in workplace services or end-user device management.
- Experience of developing technical solutions to facilitate user support.
- Experience working in the construction materials / industrial manufacturing sector.
- Proven experience of working in a federated matrix model.
- Experienced with multiple Workplace software products, platforms and vendors.
- Experienced in packaging and patching processes for endpoint devices.
