Appalachian Aggregates, LLC, a CRH Company, is located in southern West Virginia employing more than 100 employees during the construction months. As a stone producer with multiple locations located in the central and southeastern areas of West Virginia, Appalachian Aggregates, LLC supplies stone for ready-mix concrete, asphalt pavement, roadways, commercial buildings, as well as the private markets.
Position Overview
The maintenance worker position, under limited supervision, performs work of routine difficulty maintenance; performs related work as assigned. Frequently works with others.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Performs routine maintenance on plants and related equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance on building's interior and exterior.
- Performs cleanup and housekeeping duties around shops, offices, and restrooms.
- Contacts and schedules vendors and contractors for necessary emergency repairs that are outside the scope of routine maintenance.
- Works in a safe manner and recognises unsafe situations. Takes appropriate action to ensure safety of themselves and others in building and at site locations where they are performing their work.
- Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
- Continuous observation of all safety rules and keeps work areas and equipment clean and orderly.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Dependable and reliable attendance.
- Properly follows all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Maintains and operates field service truck.
- Displays a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Commercial Driver's License (preferred).
Work Requirements
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
- Skills in mechanics, welding, fabricating, cutting, plumbing, conveyor belt installation/repair and electrical.
- Pneumatic air systems knowledge.
- Be able to work overtime and night shift work.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to read and understand warning labels, instructions, signs and similar information.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a high loader and the batching computer system.
- Ability to use general hand tools needed to perform minor maintenance on trucks.
- Work requires climbing on and from the loader on a repeated basis throughout each workday.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Requires working in confined spaces. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Exposure to dust, dirt, loud noise, heat, and all-weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in recurring jarring and vibratory exposure. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Some projects and tasks require working from heights.
