Engineering Maintenance Manager – High Carr – responsible for leading maintenance across injection moulding presses, compression presses, compound mixers and facilities infrastructure. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with strategic maintenance planning, CMMS development, and regulatory compliance. It requires a small engineering team, direct support for operations, and balanced management of OPEX and CAPEX budgets.

Role Overview
The Engineering Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance function across injection moulding presses, compression presses, compound mixers, and facilities infrastructure. This role requires a hands‑on technical leader capable of managing a small engineering team whilst maintaining personal technical competency to support operations across sites with a mixing of aging and new equipment. Responsibilities include managing both OPEX and CAPEX budgets and driving equipment reliability improvements. The successful candidate will balance day‑to‑day technical problem‑solving with long‑term asset management strategy, working pragmatically with the Head of Projects & Assets.
What Our New ‘Engineering Maintenance Manager’ Will Be Doing
- Lead and manage the engineering maintenance team to ensure optimal equipment availability and reliability across all production assets.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programmes for injection moulding presses, compression presses, and compound mixers.
- Provide hands‑on technical support and troubleshooting for complex equipment failures and breakdowns.
- Manage maintenance schedules to minimise production downtime and maximise equipment lifespan.
- Oversee the development and optimisation of the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) to improve maintenance planning, work order management, and asset tracking.
- Manage all facilities infrastructure including utilities, building services, HVAC, compressed air systems, and site services.
- Develop and maintain water treatment plans and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Oversee site safety systems, fire protection, and emergency response equipment.
- Coordinate external contractors for specialist facilities maintenance and projects.
- Ensure full compliance with ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) requirements including energy audits and reporting.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Manage statutory inspections and certifications for pressure systems, lifting equipment, electrical installations, and other regulated assets.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, fire safety, and insurance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all compliance activities.
- Prepare, manage, and control the maintenance OPEX budget, ensuring cost‑effective maintenance delivery.
- Develop business cases and manage CAPEX projects for equipment replacement, upgrades, and facility improvements.
- Assess equipment condition and develop long‑term asset replacement plans, particularly for ageing legacy equipment.
- Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades and process improvements.
- Plan and manage major shutdowns and overhaul activities.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement to balance availability with inventory costs.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and maintenance procedures.
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations for recurring equipment failures.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and OEMs for technical support and parts supply.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance function.
- Participate in new equipment selection, installation, and commissioning projects.
- Provide technical input to production planning and scheduling.
- Mentor and develop engineering team members, identifying training needs.
- Conduct performance reviews and manage team development.
- Ensure effective communication between maintenance, production, and management teams.
- Support health and safety initiatives and risk assessments.
- Participate in management meetings and provide regular performance reports.
The experience our new ‘Engineering Maintenance Manager’ will have includes
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline AND/OR higher‑level apprenticeship within a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, hydraulics, PLC, electrical control systems).
- IOSH Training or relevant safety training (machinery safety, contractor management, CDM regulations).
- Must be flexible to travel across the UK & Ireland frequently, and at times within Europe or globally.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Electrical systems and control systems (PLCs, drives, motors).
- Injection moulding technology and process optimisation.
- Compression moulding processes.
- Mixing equipment and compound processing.
- Mechanical power transmission systems.
- CMMS software training and implementation.
- Root cause analysis methodologies (5‑Why, Fishbone, FMEA).
- ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) requirements and energy auditing.
- Health & Safety legislation and risk assessment.
- Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR).
- LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
- Water treatment and Legionella control.
- DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations).
- CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations.
