Role Overview
The Business Development Director – Data Centres is a strategically significant position responsible for accelerating IPE’s commercial expansion across the data centre sector.
This role will focus on developing, executing, and securing commercial opportunities with hyperscalers, colocation providers, EPC contractors, consultant engineers and other critical infrastructure partners.
The Business Development Director – Data Centres will be accountable for the delivery of a Data Centre-specific growth plan, building a strong project pipeline, and increasing market penetration across Europe and selected international markets.
The role will coordinate data centre activity across CRH International’s footprint (Europe and Australia).
It will connect with CRH’s US network so that data centre development opportunities are maximised in both IPE and CRH’s local operating companies.
This position requires strong commercial capability, sector insight and credibility, and the ability to drive product specification early in the project lifecycle.
Supported by core business functions, the role will ensure commercial success, profitability, and exceptional customer experience across the data centre sector.
- What our new ‘Business Development Director – Data Centres’ will be doing:
- Develop and implement a data centre specific commercial growth strategy aligned with IPE’s long‑term strategic plan.
- Oversee the design and execution of a robust go-to-market strategy, detailing product offering, development of sales pipelines, targeted customer acquisition and critically, strategic account management.
- Build, manage, and convert a robust sales pipeline across hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data centre projects.
- Identify and unlock new business opportunities, revenue streams, and emerging trends across the full data centre ecosystem.
- Provide sector expertise to support the innovation and design of new product lines to maintain a market leading position in the sector.
- Connect all opportunities in the sector across IPE and local in country CRH operating companies
- Drive the specification of IPE products into data centre operator design guides and consultant engineering specifications.
- Engage with and build strategic relationships with key customers, partners, and decision-makers across the data centre supply chain.
- Lead or support tender submissions and commercial negotiations on large or strategically important sector projects.
- Work with the Commercial Director to develop customer‑specific product, price, and margin strategies aligned to sector expectations.
- Develop and maintain a strong network of data centre design consultants, engineering firms, and specialist infrastructure providers.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Marketing to ensure marketing materials, case studies, and technical content meet the needs of data centre audiences.
- Work closely with the Commercial Excellence Manager to ensure competitive pricing levels are achieved, whilst delivering on the company margin expectations.
- Partner with the Head of Innovation & Product Development to ensure new, innovative products are developed with alignment to project requirements, driving the commercialisation of new products, ensuring smooth market entry and adoption.
- Provide insight into commercial policies and the specific steps required to support sector growth, ensuring internal alignment.
- Identify and anticipate customer and market needs while capitalising on new opportunities as they arise.
- Utilise market intelligence, competitor analysis, and customer feedback to refine product offering and value propositions.
- Champion customer‑centric initiatives that enhance engagement, satisfaction, and retention within the data centre sector.
- Ensure strong cross‑functional coordination between marketing, sales, operations, and product teams.
- Provide support to the Commercial Director as required, including account management, internal coordination, CRM management, sales forecasting, and monthly reporting.
- Represent IPE professionally with customers and influence positively at senior stakeholder level.
- Maintain regular communication with customer service teams, prioritising and delegating tasks while retaining ownership of key customer relationships.
- Coordinate internally across the wider commercial and operational teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- The experience our new ‘Business Development Director – Data Centres’ will have includes:
- Degree in a commercially focused, engineering, or related discipline.
- Flexibility to travel across Europe and internationally, including the US and Middle East, as required.
- Significant experience in a Sales, Business Development, Procurement, or Technical roles within the data centre sector.
- Proven record of securing large‑scale, technical, specification‑driven projects within the data centre sector.
- Strong background in international sales or procurement in technical environments.
- Experience working with data centre operators, hyperscalers, EPC contractors, and consultant engineering firms.
- Demonstrable commercial leadership skills and experience managing diverse stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, financial acumen, and advanced negotiation abilities in a technical and commercial environment.
- Ability to blend strategic focus with hands‑on commercial execution.
