This role sits within our UK Wastewater Services (UKWWS) team — supporting water utility companies on wastewater and sewage treatment sites across the UK.

We're looking for a skilled and safety‑focused Class 2 HI‑AB Driver to join our Dumfries team. This is a varied, hands‑on role involving weekly driving, crane operation, machinery lifting/removal/installation and supporting mechanical/electrical activities on wastewater sites. You’ll spend most weeks working away Monday–Friday, with overnight stays in your vehicle. If you're someone who enjoys practical, physical work, prefers being outdoors, and takes pride in doing a job well — this is the role for you.

Requirements

  • A valid UK driving licence (ideally with no more than 6 penalty points)
  • Class 2 / HGV licence
  • Ability to work at heights and outdoors in all weather
  • Willingness to work on wastewater/sewage treatment sites
  • Ability to stay away overnight (regular Monday–Friday work away)
  • Ability to undertake manual work involving strength, kneeling, crouching etc.

You’ll also need to be comfortable completing confined space training and working as part of a confined space team.

Competence & Qualifications (Desirable)

  • LOLER 1998 appreciation and awareness
  • Confined Space certification (City & Guilds preferred)
  • Mechanical engineering background
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical fitting
  • Understanding of BS7121 (safe use of cranes)

Skills & Attributes

  • Minimum 2 years’ Class 2 Driving experience
  • Experience loading flatbed wagons and securing loads
  • Strong awareness of construction industry Health & Safety
  • Reliable, friendly, professional — a team player with great people skills
  • Able to communicate clearly with customers, colleagues and management
  • Organised, systematic and able to meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude with pride in workmanship

Key Duties

  • Weekly driving/HI‑AB crane operation on sewage treatment sites
  • Leading all lifting operations and securing loads safely
  • Daily and weekly vehicle and crane maintenance
  • Lifting, removing and installing machinery
  • Supporting mechanical/electrical engineering tasks
  • Working outdoors in all weather (full PPE provided)
  • Regular overnight stays in your vehicle
  • Occasional Saturday morning work for cleaning, checks and loading
