This is a great next step for someone with a couple of years’ IT experience who wants more ownership than simply working through a support queue. You’ll be joining a SaaS business as the go-to person for day-to-day internal IT, supporting around 60 users across the UK and international offices. It’s a small environment, so you’ll get plenty of autonomy, but you’ll also have direct access to one of the co-founders who will help mentor and develop you.

A lot of the repetitive support work has already been automated, which means this isn’t just a case of resetting passwords all day. You’ll still look after the day-to-day IT environment, but there’ll also be opportunities to get involved in improvement work, automation and internal projects.

Day to day

  • You’ll look after the internal Microsoft environment, supporting users across Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and Active Directory.
  • You’ll manage laptops and devices, handle starters and leavers, create user accounts and make sure equipment is configured properly.
  • You’ll also be the person people come to when monitors, printers, meeting rooms or other bits of physical IT aren’t behaving themselves.
  • Alongside the BAU work, you’ll help improve how internal IT is delivered. That could mean building out automation, improving processes, creating user guides or getting involved in projects set by the co-founder.
  • There’s some exposure to AWS and wider SaaS platforms too, so there’s plenty to learn if you’re someone who likes figuring things out rather than waiting to be shown every step.

Who we are looking for

  • You’ll probably have around 2–3 years’ IT experience and be ready for a role where you can take a bit more responsibility.
  • A good grounding across Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows devices and general IT troubleshooting is important.
  • Some knowledge of networking fundamentals such as IP, DNS and firewalls would also be useful, although the core network itself is managed externally.
  • Experience with Macs, SharePoint, Intune/device management, AWS, Salesforce or NetSuite would all be useful, but you don’t need to tick every box.
  • The bigger thing is attitude. They’re looking for someone curious, personable and comfortable working things out.
  • Someone who can be given a problem they haven’t seen before, go away, research it and come back with an answer rather than immediately passing it on.
  • You’ll be interacting with people across the whole business, so you need to be able to communicate well too. This won’t suit someone who wants to sit behind a screen all day and avoid speaking to people.

The Next Steps

If you’ve got a couple of years’ IT experience and you’re looking for a role where you can take more ownership, learn directly from senior people in the business and start getting involved in more than just support tickets, this could be a really good move.

How to prepare for a job interview at CRG | TEC Recruitment

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
