This is a high-impact position where you’ll provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and strategic oversight across a modern, evolving technology estate, while also leading and developing an established software engineering team. If you enjoy balancing hands-on technical involvement with strategic influence, this role offers the chance to make a genuine mark.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architectural design and technical oversight across software development and re-platforming initiatives, adopting a zero trust security approach.
- Define and drive alignment between software engineering practices and wider digital and enterprise architecture strategies.
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Take accountability for architecture, tooling, and technology decisions across digital products.
- Design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using modern engineering principles.
- Lead and develop a high-performing software development team, fostering best practice and continuous improvement.
- Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including emerging AI-driven development practices.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Delivery teams to shape technical roadmaps and integration strategies.
- Provide early-stage technical input into discovery, feasibility, and solution design.
- Define and enforce coding standards, architectural patterns, and quality controls.
- Work closely with Cyber Security teams to ensure solutions are secure and risk is effectively managed.
- Review and assure code delivered by third-party suppliers, ensuring alignment with architectural and security standards.
- Provide hands-on support for live services, including debugging, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
Technology Environment
You’ll be working within a modern cloud-based ecosystem, including:
- Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Container Instances, Web Apps, SignalR).
- .NET (C#), Blazor.
- Aspire.NET & Dapr.
- Terraform.
- Redis.
There is also a strong focus on AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) and future-facing engineering approaches.
Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in software architecture, solution design, and technical leadership.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale digital transformation or re-platforming projects.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, modern development frameworks, and integration patterns.
- Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
- Understanding of secure development practices and working alongside Cyber Security functions.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
- Experience or exposure to AI/ML integration and data platforms.
- Comfortable working across both strategic and hands-on technical responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Industry certifications such as TOGAF, Azure certifications, or similar.
- SCRUM certification or strong experience working in Agile environments.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can influence technology direction, shape engineering culture, and deliver meaningful transformation within a forward-thinking organisation. You’ll be given the autonomy to lead, the support to innovate, and the platform to make a lasting impact.
