Accessories Designer Kingston-on-Thames (4 days in office, 1 day from home) 37.5 Hours

Purpose of the role: As part of the design team, the Junior Accessories Designer is responsible for the designing of original, on-brand and commercial product which complements the Customer positioning and answers the business strategy. The Junior Accessories Designer is responsible for ensuring they produce strong category designs, which maximise sales and profit for the various different sales channels, through the development of product and design and which are able to complement the range balance.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Design function in strong seasonal product ranges, always on-brand and mindful of previous sales success.
  • Product that can be commercialised.
  • Involvement in seasonal research, new ideas and inspiration to ensure the ranges stay fresh.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strong team working across all critical functions especially Product and Merchandising, as well as Sale and Direct.
  • Understand the design and development process and ensure all key dates are met.
  • Following the seasonal process from concept to product handover.
  • Ensuring product designs match the supply base capabilities.
  • Working with the options given by Merchandising and understanding the range balance.
  • Working with Product teams and the supplier/factory base on initial costings and margin implications of all product development.
  • Chasing in and presenting prototype samples to Product and Merchandising teams as well as senior management and Range presentations when required.
  • Understanding the Range balance working with Product and Merchandisers, within the context of the total business.
  • Attending proto fits with the Technical and Product teams.
  • Professionally raising concerns over issues that might arise over all areas of product development with suppliers/factories or the internal team to your line manager to seek to resolve.
  • Tracking sales and taking ownership of product lines with the Product and Merchandising teams to gain learnings for future growth and development for the brand and Crew Clothing customer.
  • Reacting to sales and working into OTB efficiently alongside the Buying teams & the Brand Director to ensure sales are potentialised and fulfilled within season if possible.
  • On-going liaison with the functional teams to ensure smooth and effective working relationships.
  • Ensuring objectives are understood and progress monitored and supported to achieve the set outcomes.
  • Leading by example of deadline achievement, professional cross-functional liaison, fresh thinking and proven track record of sales success.
  • Reporting to Brand Operations Manager & Senior Designer on all aspects of the function to update and ensure smooth workflow at all times.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar brand, or comparable retailer, work at a Design Assistant capacity.
  • Able to demonstrate relevant professional experience/professional or academic qualifications (Fashion design degree or similar).
  • Ability to influence & communicate effectively, with excellent people skills.
  • Computer literate (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Understanding of garment construction, pattern cutting and finishing.
  • Excellent eye for detail and quality.
  • Understanding of garment specification packages and developing them with factories.
