Special Purpose Machinery & Advanced Manufacturing
I’m working with a highly regarded engineering-led automation business that designs, builds and supports bespoke robotic and automated systems for a global customer base. Operating across advanced manufacturing and highly regulated sectors, the business delivers technically complex machinery and automation solutions, supported by a strong aftersales and field service function.
This is a key customer-facing engineering role, combining field service, commissioning, fault finding and preventative maintenance across installed automation systems. You will act as the first point of contact for technical issues, supporting customers both remotely and on site. This includes troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out planned maintenance, calibrating equipment, commissioning upgrades and supporting reactive breakdown visits.
The role would suit a hands-on engineer with strong fault-finding capability across electrical, mechanical and automated systems. Experience within bespoke machinery or other highly automated manufacturing environments would be particularly relevant. You will be expected to travel to customer sites in the UK and internationally for both proactive service visits and reactive support so this would suit someone who enjoys the field-based and customer-facing side of engineering.
The business also places a real emphasis on career development and technical progression. They are genuinely supportive of further training and specialist courses, whether that is robotics programming or technical certifications.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- reactive field service and customer support
- commissioning and system upgrades
- preventative maintenance and calibration
- remote fault diagnosis and technical support
- mechanical and electrical root cause analysis
- service reporting and helpdesk updates
- customer communication and issue resolution
- supporting service level agreements
You should ideally have:
- HNC / apprenticeship / equivalent hands-on engineering background
- strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- experience in field service, commissioning or customer support
- familiarity with automation systems, PLCs, robotics or instrumentation
- a willingness to travel globally as required
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the customer, solving real technical issues and developing their technical skill set within a business that actively invests in its engineers.
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 depending on experience + £500 per month car allowance
Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays
Pension: 5% employer contribution
