Crem Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of its client for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business based near Newmarket on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is the kind of role that suits an engineer who enjoys being trusted. Someone who wants ownership, variety and the opportunity to genuinely influence products, projects and manufacturing improvements rather than simply being another cog in a large corporate machine. The business is going through a significant period of growth and investment, with engineering sitting right at the centre of it. Production capability has expanded rapidly, new projects continue to come through the door and the design team now needs an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who can help lead from the front technically, whilst remaining hands-on day-to-day.

You’ll be involved across the full lifecycle, from concept generation and detailed design through to prototyping, testing, production support and continuous improvement. This is not a role where designs disappear into the void. You’ll see products move through the workshop, collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams and play a key part in solving real-world engineering challenges. The environment itself is collaborative, relaxed and engineering-led. The team works closely together, communication is open and there’s a genuine investment in development, training and giving engineers autonomy to do their best work.

The position will involve:

  • Producing detailed mechanical designs using 3D CAD
  • Supporting prototype builds and testing activities
  • Carrying out tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • Creating and maintaining engineering drawings to BS8888 standards
  • Leading projects and supporting technical decision making
  • Working closely with production and wider engineering teams
  • Supporting continuous improvement and engineering change activities

We are keen to speak with engineers who have:

  • Strong mechanical product design experience within manufacturing
  • Experience developing products through the full lifecycle
  • Strong 3D CAD capability, SolidWorks would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and structural analysis
  • Experience with GD&T and engineering drawing standards
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • The confidence to work autonomously whilst also collaborating effectively with wider teams

In return, our client is offering:

  • Salary up to £60,000
  • Annual bonus
  • 12-month fixed-term contract
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Private healthcare
  • Enhanced pension contribution
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Ongoing training and development support
  • A modern and growing engineering environment

For engineers who enjoy technically varied work, visible projects and being part of a business that is genuinely evolving, this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly capable and ambitious team. For further information, please contact Crem Recruitment in confidence.
