Our client is a highly regarded organisation operating within a sensitive and specialist environment, where professionalism, empathy and attention to detail are at the heart of everything they do. They are seeking a compassionate and organised Funeral Home Administrator to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service while supporting families during important and often emotional moments.

Working within a structured environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the office, providing administrative support and maintaining the highest standards of care, discretion and professionalism. This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys administration, values accuracy and attention to detail, and is comfortable working in a sensitive setting where empathy and confidentiality are essential.

As the first point of contact for families, visitors and suppliers, you will ensure every interaction is handled with warmth, professionalism and sensitivity. While the role is primarily office-based, there will be occasions where you escort families to the Chapel of Rest and have limited contact with the deceased. You should therefore feel comfortable working within a funeral home environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcoming visitors with warmth, compassion and professionalism.
  • Answering telephone enquiries with empathy and sensitivity.
  • Booking appointments for funeral arrangements.
  • Maintaining accurate client records and documentation.
  • Providing updates to families throughout the funeral arrangements process.
  • Offering guidance on elements of the funeral process where appropriate.
  • Managing charitable donations and associated records.
  • Raising invoices and dealing with invoice queries.
  • Processing card payments both over the telephone and in person.
  • Carrying out basic credit control duties.
  • Assisting with invoice allocation and petty cash administration.
  • Producing correspondence and maintaining records using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Maintaining both electronic and paper-based filing systems, including manual record updates where required.
  • Receiving deliveries, including flowers and clothing for the deceased.
  • Escorting families to the Chapel of Rest when required.
  • Handing over ashes to families with dignity, compassion and professionalism.
  • Liaising with suppliers and responding to general enquiries.
  • Supporting colleagues by ensuring the office continues to operate efficiently while funeral directors are conducting services.
About You

We're looking for someone who combines excellent administrative skills with genuine compassion and professionalism. You will be organised, calm under pressure and able to communicate with empathy during emotionally difficult situations. You will understand the importance of confidentiality, attention to detail and providing exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, taking ownership of the office when colleagues are attending funerals and effectively managing competing priorities.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • High levels of empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • Professional, discreet and confidential approach.

Desirable Skills
  • Experience using Xero.
  • Previous credit control experience.
  • Knowledge of invoice allocation and petty cash procedures.
  • Experience in a customer-facing administrative role.
Working Environment

This is a traditional and well-established organisation where accuracy, consistency and professionalism are highly valued. Alongside modern systems, some paper-based administration remains an important part of the role. The successful candidate will appreciate structured ways of working and understand the importance of maintaining established processes while delivering exceptional service.

Benefits
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
  • 37.5-hour working week.
  • 30-minute lunch break (flexibility required around funeral schedules).
