Overview

Salary: up to £45,000

Hours: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Behind every smooth-running operation is someone making the right calls long before materials hit the floor. Our client operates within steel fabrication and construction, delivering complex projects that rely on planning, timing and dependable supply chains. Buying here is not a background function. It is a role that keeps momentum, protects programmes and gives the wider team confidence that what is needed will arrive exactly when it should.

This is a Buyer position for someone who enjoys ownership, coordination and problem-solving. You will sit at the centre of the operation, working closely with production, suppliers and internal teams to ensure purchasing activity supports delivery rather than slowing it down. You will be trusted to manage detail, communicate clearly and stay one step ahead, rather than simply react.

The Role

  • Buyer within a manufacturing and construction environment
  • Reporting to the Office Manager
  • Responsible for managing purchasing activity across multiple workstreams
  • Acting as the link between suppliers, production and the wider business
  • Ensuring materials, services and consumables are ordered, tracked and controlled effectively

Key Responsibilities

  • Requesting and reviewing supplier quotes and confirming lead times
  • Raising and managing purchase orders for materials and bought-in items
  • Coordinating deliveries to support production schedules
  • Maintaining accurate records within internal systems
  • Checking supplier invoices against orders and hire agreements
  • Setting up job numbers and supporting project administration
  • Liaising with internal teams to forecast requirements and priorities
  • Managing supplier relationships and acting as the main point of contact
  • Supporting compliance and training records for external contractors
  • Attending regular production and planning meetings
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of purchasing processes

What is on offer

  • Salary up to £45,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent position within an established and growing business
  • Consistent working hours, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
  • A role with genuine responsibility and influence
  • Close collaboration with experienced operational teams
  • Long-term stability and the chance to become a key part of the business

This opportunity will suit a Buyer who values structure, accountability and being relied upon. Someone who takes pride in keeping operations organised, suppliers aligned and projects moving forward without unnecessary noise.
