Our client is a well-established and fast-evolving distribution business operating within the cold storage sector. Following continued investment into systems, structure and people, they are now seeking a Mid-Shift Supervisor to take responsibility for a key operational area within the warehouse. This is a hands-on supervisory role where you will lead from the front, ensuring operational performance, safety and quality standards are consistently achieved across the shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising the day-to-day activities of the Cold Store operation
- Scheduling and allocating workloads to Operatives in line with business priorities
- Ensuring all daily, weekly and monthly checks are completed, including HACCP-related documentation
- Completing return-to-work documentation and maintaining cleaning records
- Managing day-to-day staffing requirements including annual leave, sickness and holiday cover
- Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment
- Supporting and covering GMP audits when required
- Reporting and investigating operational issues and non-conformances
- Maintaining effective communication with the wider management team
- Recording working hours accurately on payroll spreadsheets
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous supervisory experience within warehousing, distribution or logistics
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety and quality procedures
- HACCP knowledge would be advantageous, but is not essential
- Confident leading and motivating a small team
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- A proactive and hands-on approach with a strong sense of accountability
- Comfortable working with warehouse systems, machinery and operational processes
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and warehouse management systems (WMS)
- Ability to work within a cold store environment
- Experience operating a Counterbalance forklift (Reach truck would be desirable but not essential)
- Previous cold storage experience would be beneficial, but is not essential
Shift Pattern
This role is primarily Monday to Friday on a fixed mid-shift pattern however regular weekend overtime will also be required in line with business needs. Standard hours are: 10:00am – 6:30pm Monday to Friday. Overtime rates are paid as follows:
- Saturday overtime paid at time and a half
- Sunday overtime paid at double time
Due to the nature of the operation, flexibility to start earlier or finish later may occasionally be required.
