We are looking for a driven and experienced Transport Manager to lead our transport operations and help deliver exceptional service levels, consistently exceeding our 99% target. This is a key leadership role where you will take full accountability for transport performance, including budget management, KPI delivery, service standards, and compliance with O Licence requirements. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring all customer deliveries are completed accurately, safely, and on time, while developing a high‑performing, customer‑focused team culture.

Operating within a fast‑paced foodservice environment, you will lead a large team and oversee a significant fleet, contributing to the continued growth of businesses with a combined turnover of £300M+.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the Transport department in a positive, professional, and customer-focused manner
  • Ensure safe, accurate, and timely deliveries through effective planning and resource management
  • Take full ownership of transport budget, KPIs, service levels, and O Licence compliance
  • Manage and develop a team of 7–9 direct reports and oversee 40–60 drivers
  • Drive a strong culture of safety across team, fleet, and yard operations
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members to support performance and succession planning
  • Monitor, measure, and report against service targets, budgets, and operational performance
  • Maintain fleet compliance, safety standards, and vehicle condition in line with legislation
  • Ensure all transport documentation, temperature records, and delivery confirmations are completed accurately
  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and employee engagement
  • Lead on health & safety, food safety, HACCP, and compliance standards
  • Manage absence records, performance reviews, and HR processes in line with company policies
  • Support operational continuity by providing management cover when required
  • Champion ESG goals, food safety culture, and data security compliance

The ideal candidate:

  • Proven experience as a Transport Manager or Supervisor with leadership responsibility
  • Transport Manager CPC and ability to hold an O Licence
  • Strong IT, numeracy, and administration skills
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • Solutions-focused, highly organised, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong leadership capability with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing teams
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, and IOSH procedures
  • Experience working within FMCG or temperature-controlled food distribution
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance, safe working practices, and control measures
  • Experience managing budgets, KPIs, and performance improvement plans
  • A proactive, 'lead by example' approach with high attention to detail

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday - 8:30am-5:00pm
