The Debt Capital Markets Lawyer - AVP role at MUFG involves providing legal advice on a variety of debt capital markets transactions while supporting innovative business initiatives within a collaborative team.

The ideal candidate will have 2‑4 years of post‑qualification legal experience and a robust understanding of capital markets regulations and trends.

What You'll Do

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice, review, draft, and negotiate documentation for a wide variety of debt capital markets transactions across multiple product lines.
  • Support the structuring and establishment of new products as well as innovative business initiatives within the Capital Markets Group.
  • Engage directly with clients during negotiations and assist business units by clearly explaining complex products to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Offer strategic legal counsel on regulatory matters, reputational considerations, and documentation issues related to capital‑markets activities.
  • Deliver training sessions on legal and regulatory developments to employees across the firm to ensure up‑to‑date knowledge sharing.
  • Participate actively in working groups and committees within MUFG to contribute your expertise to broader organisational projects.
  • Efficiently manage relationships with external law firms while ensuring prudent control over legal spend.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc in accordance with dual‑hat responsibilities.
  • Identify potential conflicts between entities promptly and elevate issues appropriately to maintain entity neutrality.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements while supporting both business arms effectively.

What You Bring

  • Hold a university degree in law with 2‑4 years post‑qualification experience gained at a major law firm or another significant financial institution.
  • Demonstrate robust technical understanding of debt capital markets transactions along with commercial awareness of current market trends and regulatory changes impacting the sector.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to build effective stakeholder relationships quickly across diverse teams.
  • Showcase strong written and verbal communication abilities that allow you to explain intricate legal concepts clearly to non‑specialist audiences.
  • Display proven experience operating successfully within team‑oriented or matrix environments while collaborating with colleagues at varying levels of seniority.
  • Exhibit proactive enthusiasm for driving positive change coupled with accountability for results delivered.
  • Bring an international outlook combined with pragmatic problem‑solving skills tailored for commercial settings.
