Overview

The Health, Safety & Environmental Officer will oversee health and safety across the bank, address individual safety issues, ensure compliance with company policy, conduct induction training, manual handling and workstation risk assessments, review fire risk assessments, maintain health and safety records, promote environmental initiatives and recycling schemes, and coordinate a physically secure environment with service providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Facilities Operations Manager to review all health and safety for the bank and group.
  • Collaborate as part of the operations team.
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety within the working environment as practicable.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policy Statement.
  • Carry out health and safety induction training for new employees and contractors.
  • Oversee accident/incident and near‑miss investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct workstation assessments in line with HSE guidelines.
  • Review and act on yearly risk assessment report for fire precaution regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all assessments.
  • Organise training and supervise fire marshalls and first aiders.
  • Assist the landlord in organising six‑monthly fire drills at BWH.
  • Organise and implement major incident evacuation/invocation procedures with the landlord.
  • Maintain health and safety records, including staff register, fire marshalls, first aiders and safety officers.
  • Publish all health and safety details on company notice boards and intranet.
  • Assistance to the Facilities Operations Manager with ISO14001 accreditation improvement.
  • Monitor and report environmental performance and implement resources to reduce carbon footprint where possible.
  • Organise environmental awareness campaigns.
  • Assist in other areas of the PCS department as required.
  • Be available 24/7 to respond to emergency situations.

Education

  • High school, secondary school, A levels, AS levels, IB Academic qualification or speciality educated to A level standard, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Understanding of health and safety law.
  • Understanding of hazard and risk.
  • Knowledge of permit to work systems.
  • Knowledge of best practices in security provision and management.
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements, both legal and best practice.
  • Required Skills
  • Good communication and presentation skills for training and induction.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Document record‑keeping and organisational skills.
  • PC literate; ability to write clear and precise policies and documents.
  • Ability to train others in health & safety, security or environmental matters.
  • Ability to respond effectively under pressure.
  • Technical Skills Required
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificate.
  • NEBOSH general certificate.
  • First aid trained.
  • Trained in the use of defibrillator.
