We are seeking a Director of Engineering Services to join our Strategic Services organization at a fast-growing SaaS company. This senior leadership role focuses on cultivating, supporting, and scaling a high-performing team of customer-facing software and solutions engineers who collaborate closely with clients to design and deliver tailored, enterprise-grade solutions for our most valued and strategic partners. This role operates at the intersection of engineering, product, sales, and professional services, and plays a key role in aligning teams around shared goals and customer success.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with an inclusive, confident leadership style, and excels at building trusted relationships with senior customer stakeholders. They bring a thoughtful, consultative approach to shaping complex solutions, guiding teams through delivery, and creating meaningful, high-impact outcomes for customers and the business alike. Remote work is supported, with a strong preference for candidates located in London.

In this role, you’ll get to:

  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of customer-facing software engineers and solution architects.
    • Set technical and delivery standards for custom solution development across enterprise engagements.
    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, customer empathy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Partner with recruiting to attract top-tier engineering and solutions talent.
  • Customer & Executive Engagement
    • Act as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor for enterprise customers, including C-suite and VP-level stakeholders.
    • Lead executive-level discovery, solution design, and technical validation sessions.
    • Present and demo product capabilities, custom solutions, and technical roadmaps with confidence and clarity.
    • Ensure customer solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term platform strategy.
  • Solution Design & Delivery
    • Oversee the design and delivery of full-stack custom solutions, including APIs and integrations, backend services and data pipelines, databases and data models, frontend and UI/UX experiences.
    • Guide teams in translating customer business requirements into robust technical architectures.
    • Ensure on-time, high-quality delivery across multiple concurrent enterprise engagements.
  • Commercial & Strategic Partnership
    • Take responsibility to drive sales of Engineering Services bookings.
    • Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Product to scope, price, and sell professional services and custom solutions.
    • Support pre-sales activities including technical discovery, solutioning, and services scoping.
    • Balance customer customization with platform scalability and product roadmap alignment.
    • Contribute to the evolution of services offerings, packaging, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Collaborate with Product Management to influence roadmap priorities based on enterprise customer needs.
    • Work with core Engineering teams to align on architectural standards, security, and platform extensibility.
    • Partner with Strategic Services leadership to define success metrics, utilization targets, and customer impact.

Who you are and what you’ll need for this position:

  • 8+ years of experience across a combination of customer-facing technical roles (solutions engineering, professional services, technical consulting) and engineering and/or product management roles.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling teams of senior engineers in a customer-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex, full-stack software solutions.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior customer and internal stakeholders.

Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on experience with modern full-stack architectures, including REST and/or GraphQL APIs, backend services and microservices, relational and/or NoSQL databases, frontend frameworks and UI/UX best practices.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS platforms, integrations, and enterprise-grade security and scalability requirements.

Commercial & Communication Skills

  • Proven ability to support the sale of software and professional services.
  • Strong storytelling and demo skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.

Preferred Background

  • Experience at large technology companies, venture-backed unicorns, or rapidly scaling tech startups.
  • Prior leadership roles within Strategic Services, Professional Services, Solutions Engineering, or Technical Consulting organizations.
  • Experience working with Fortune 500 or large enterprise customers.
