The Electronic Service Engineer is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and testing of Audio Visual and LED display equipment within Creative Technology’s rental inventory. Working closely with Operations, Technical Managers, On‑Site Engineers, and other Service Engineers, the role ensures all equipment is maintained to the highest technical, safety, and performance standards. The objective is to guarantee reliable, project‑ready equipment that meets client expectations and supports operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Repair & Maintenance
- Diagnose, fault find and carry out electrical and mechanical repairs on LED displays and a wide range of professional AV equipment.
- Perform board level and component level repairs, including manual soldering and hot air rework techniques.
- Maintain and service power distribution systems, including 400V three‑phase systems.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to minimise equipment failure and downtime.
- Carry out firmware updates, configuration checks, calibration, and performance testing where required.
- Undertake minor mechanical fabrication and modifications using workshop machinery (e.g., milling, drilling equipment).
- Support the continuous improvement of equipment reliability through failure analysis and root cause identification.
- Testing & Compliance
- Take ownership of the PAT testing process, including full management of associated tracking and certification systems.
- Conduct electrical safety testing and general compliance checks in accordance with current legislation and company standards.
- Ensure all repairs and testing meet relevant industry standards and company quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate certification records and documentation for audit purposes.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with Operations and Technical teams to prioritise equipment requiring urgent repair in line with upcoming projects.
- Ensure repaired equipment is fully tested, quality checked, and ready for deployment.
- Attend site to carry out field repairs or provide technical troubleshooting support when necessary.
- Assist in stock control of spare parts and recommend procurement where required.
- Administration & Systems
- Maintain accurate and timely records within repair management and inventory systems.
- Track equipment returns to manufacturers and suppliers, including warranty repairs and service agreements.
- Provide clear reporting on recurring faults, repair trends, and equipment performance issues.
- Contribute to asset lifecycle management and equipment condition reporting.
- Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across all departments.
- Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical support, documentation, and replacement components.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge of current and emerging AV technologies.
- Observe and promote safe working practices, including correct use of PPE and workshop safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including: Quality Management System (ISO9001), Environmental (ISO14001), Health and Safety (ISO45001) and Event Sustainability (ISO20121).
- Support sustainability initiatives by ensuring responsible handling, disposal, and recycling of electronic components.
- Participate in training, mentoring of colleagues, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Skills & Experience
- Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with three‑phase power systems (desirable).
- Competent in soldering and PCB fault tracing.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Good IT skills and experience using service/asset management systems.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Flexible approach with the ability to respond to operational demands.
