We are looking for a Tamil‑speaking befriender volunteer to support residents to express themselves in their native language. Volunteering with Creative Support is a great way to enrich the lives of people with support needs while helping our staff to deliver person‑centred services.

We are looking for an outgoing, sociable and warm person who is also a good listener. As a befriender, you will provide companionship by meeting regularly for a cup of tea and a chat. You will engage with residents in a friendly manner and develop strong rapport with the people we support. You will meet residents in their flats and in common areas, encouraging them to engage in conversation and activities. If you have a few hours to spare on a regular basis, we would love to hear from you. This role is for an extra care service in North London which supports older people and is located in Harrow with good public transport links.

Hours: Flexible days and times.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Meet on a regular basis.
  • Provide companionship and conversation while respecting boundaries.
  • Engage the people we support in conversation.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to Creative Support staff members.
  • Understand and work within Creative Support policies and procedures, respecting boundaries.
  • Attend regular supervisions with your allocated volunteer supervisor and complete any training provided.

Qualifications:

  • Tamil speaking, able to communicate confidently in Tamil.
  • Outgoing, sociable and warm.
  • Good listener.
