We have set up a fun craft group in Darlington which has been running for a couple of weeks and we are looking for a committed and enthusiastic volunteer to help run the sessions. The group attendees are people we support with Learning Disabilities from across the local area.
The sessions are held weekly on a Friday between 1pm and 3:30pm. We are looking for someone who can take a proactive approach with running the group. The role includes discussing with the group and deciding what types of crafts they would like to try. Planning the sessions and preparing materials and equipment. Ensuring that the crafts are accessible for the group and making adjustments when needed. Making refreshments for the group and tidying away all materials and equipment at the end of each session, making sure the room is left clean and tidy.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and skilled in different types of crafts. The types of crafts could include knitting and crochet, embroidery, weaving, macramé, sewing, paper based crafts, felting, colouring, and many more. Due to the space we hire we unfortunately cannot accommodate any messy crafts such as painting, but there are still plenty of crafts to choose from. It would be great if the group could work towards projects together and gain a sense of achievement from the new skills they have learnt.
As a volunteer with Creative Support we offer training for your role, access to a volunteer supervisor, an induction, a monthly volunteer newsletter, and an online volunteer support network group on Zoom.
