Artists and creative practitioners sought to co-design and deliver creative workshops bringing together secondary pupils and ESOL learners in Glenrothes.
Common Ground is a project from the University of St Andrews Museums bringing together secondary school pupils and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners in Fife. Through creative practice, participants explore themes of community, belonging, home, identity, place and connection.
We are seeking 1-2 artists or creative practitioners to co-design and deliver approximately 4-8 workshops between October 2026 and March 2027 at Glenwood High School, Glenrothes.
The project will respond to 'The Divine Sky', an upcoming exhibition at the Wardlaw Museum by artist Sekai Machache. The workshops will use creative practice to explore themes emerging from the exhibition alongside participants' own experiences and ideas.
Sessions take place on alternate Thursdays, 3.30-6.30pm.
The role will include planning and development with the Museums team, co-designing and delivering workshops, and contributing to a final sharing event or other participant-led outcome. The final outcome will be developed collaboratively rather than predetermined in advance.
We welcome applications from practitioners working across disciplines, including visual arts, photography, printmaking, storytelling and creative writing, sound and music, performance, film and digital media, socially engaged practice, and interdisciplinary approaches.
We are particularly interested in practitioners who:
- - have experience of, or a strong interest in, participatory or community-engaged practice
- - can create welcoming, inclusive and accessible creative spaces
- are responsive to participant interests, ideas and access needs
- - value dialogue, relationship-building and participant agency
- - bring imaginative approaches to collaborative creative practice.
Fees
Artists will be paid in line with current recommended Scottish Artists Union rates. Indicative half-day rates are £124 (new graduate), £148 (3+ years' experience) and £183 (5+ years' experience). Planning and materials support will be discussed separately and reasonable travel expenses will be covered.
The successful artist(s) will be required to undertake a PVG check.
