We are looking for a Communications Freelancer to develop and deliver Lyra’s external communications, raising the organisation’s profile as Scotland’s dedicated theatre for children and teenagers.

About Lyra

Lyra is Scotland’s first and only theatre dedicated exclusively to children and teenagers, a place where art is free. Founded in 2012, Lyra is recognised in Scotland and across the world as a centre of excellence. We present, make and tour professional shows for young audiences and provide a Cultural Home where young and grown‑up artists can watch, learn, and create side by side. We challenge the inequity of cultural provision in areas of multiple deprivation and empower children to access their cultural rights. Our vision is that today’s Young Artists will lead Lyra in the future.

Responsibilities

  • The Communications Freelancer creates engaging digital content, updates Lyra’s website, markets public‑facing activity (shows, tours, engagement events), and builds relationships with local partner organisations — ensuring Lyra’s story, impact and artistic programme are communicated clearly and confidently.

Contract & Commitment

  • Contract: Freelance
  • Pay rate: Lyra band 2, £162 per day (£173 per day from August 2026)
  • Commitment: 1 day per week, 44 weeks per year (aligned with school term time) with Tuesday mornings at Lyra, Artspace, 11 Harewood Road, Craigmillar, Edinburgh EH16. The remaining half day can be worked flexibly/remotely.
