The Trust seeks a Digital Communications Manager to help increase the profile of the Scottish Arts Trust by promoting our programmes including writing and visual arts awards.


The Scottish Arts Trust supports creative talent, strengthening Scotland’s cultural future. We deliver open competitions and public programmes in writing and visual arts. We remove barriers, judge on quality alone, and showcase outstanding work on high-profile public platforms.


Our digital channels and website are used to inform and encourage writers and artists to enter our awards, to encourage audiences to attend exhibitions, to buy our anthologies and catalogues, and to view our artists films. Results in these areas provide important measures of campaign success.


We are looking for a freelance Digital Communications Manager to support the Trust with a minimum of 20 days (8 hrs per day) across 12 months. The fee is £25 per hour / minimum £4,000 per annum.


The candidate may be required to travel to Edinburgh for occasional in-person meetings. Travel expenses will be covered.


The postholder will be responsible for planning and developing social media campaigns across Facebook and Instagram, designing promotional visuals and crafting compelling content, scheduling posts across our social media platforms, making strategic recommendations on social media advertising and analysing campaign results.


The postholder will also be responsible for updating content on our website using Squarespace.


Key activities for the role include:



  • Design, post and promote content by developing social media campaigns and strategically scheduling content, targeted towards specific audiences to achieve defined results.

  • Monitor results and where needed recommend/implement adjustments to social media campaigns.

  • Play an active role as a key member of the Scottish Arts Trust, staying well-informed, contributing ideas and keeping other team members regularly updated on social media initiatives.


Skills and Qualifications



  • At least three years’ experience as a digital content creator/ digital communications manager.

  • Proven skills in creating successful social media strategies and crafting compelling social media content.

  • Good design skills and an awareness in applying the Scottish Arts Trust brand to create visual posts.

  • Experience in using Squarespace or similar website management including managing images.

  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
