Are you a lyrical legend with a passion for youth creativity? We’re on the lookout for an experienced, engaging music facilitator to join our Beats and Rhymes team, bringing powerful, participatory music-making to young people in S1–S6 through rap, lyric writing, and music production.
Part of our Take Part programme at Aberdeen Performing Arts, this role is all about self-expression, confidence, and community. You’ll work closely with a small team to design and deliver weekly workshops that empower young voices, often in their own language, including Doric, to explore identity, creativity, and connection.
The Practical Stuff:
• One workshop per week, Thursdays from 6:30–8pm (term time) in Tutti Studio at the Music Hall
• You’ll typically lead approx. five sessions per term
• Freelance fee of £60.63 per session (incl. planning, delivery & travel)
• You’ll help develop a shared piece for the Light the Blue youth arts festival (previous projects have included lyric exhibitions with music accessed via QR codes, yes, it’s as cool as it sounds)
Your Superpower? Lyric Writing.
To complement our team, we’re looking for someone with a particular talent for words. You’ll support participants in crafting lyrics that reflect their lived experiences, encourage respectful expression, and build confidence in sharing their stories.
You’ll Need:
• Experience working with young people in informal or community settings
• A flair for creative lyric writing and collaborative music-making
• A strong commitment to inclusion and creating a welcoming space for diverse voices
• The ability to connect with young people, build trust, and foster their creative growth
• An understanding of safeguarding, EDI best practice, and youth-centred facilitation
• A current PVG check (or willingness to get one)
We’re especially interested in facilitators who:
• Bring lived experience or cultural insight relevant to the communities we serve
• Can be a relatable, inspiring presence in the workshop space
• Thrive on collaboration and can adapt creatively with a team
