At Creative Composites, we design and manufacture world-leading composite components. Our customer base spans major OEMs in a range of sectors such as automotive, medical, transport and construction. Behind the scenes, our state-of-the-art equipment includes the largest compression moulding presses in the UK, robotic cells, 5-axis CNC machines, conveyorized paint lines and advanced assembly fixtures.
Duties: The duties outlined below are not exhaustive. The post holder may be required to undertake additional tasks reasonably expected within the scope and grade of the role. Job descriptions will be reviewed regularly to ensure accuracy and alignment with operational and business needs.
- PRESS OPERATOR: Core Responsibilities
- Prepare production moulds at the start of each shift, ensuring they are clean, correctly released, and ready for operation.
- Cut and accurately weigh Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) in line with production requirements.
- Position and secure mould inserts as specified for each product.
- Ensure moulds reach and maintain their designated operating temperature before production starts.
- Load SMC into moulds and operate press equipment to produce high-quality components.
- Carry out all required in-process and final quality checks to meet defined standards.
- De-flash finished products where necessary to ensure proper finish and compliance.
- Complete all relevant machine records, production documentation, and product identification labels accurately.
- Follow all machine and workplace safety procedures at all times.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support smooth and efficient manufacturing operations.
- Communicate with the Unit Manager and Supervisor to understand daily production requirements and priorities.
- Adhere to established manufacturing processes and safe working methods throughout all activities.
- Support the production of first-off samples and work closely with Quality Engineers and Inspectors to confirm compliance.
- Identify and report machine faults promptly to Maintenance to minimise downtime and ensure continuous production flow.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within the Press area, promoting a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Operate CNC machinery, tools, systems, and associated production equipment in various environments to deliver high-quality products that consistently meet or exceed customer and business standards.
- Follow consistent and standardised working practices to meet production targets while maintaining optimum efficiency and quality levels.
- Actively contribute ideas for improvement at departmental Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Business Improvement meetings, and support the implementation of agreed improvements.
- Participate fully in training and apply Lean Manufacturing tools such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Standard Work, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, A3/8D, Just-Do-It, and OEE.
- Propose improvements and maintain clear, effective visual control systems to support production performance.
- Uphold excellent Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards throughout all activities and within the shift.
- Proven CNC operating experience gained within a Lean manufacturing environment, including involvement in problem-solving and delivering change initiatives aligned to business objectives and strategy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with basic computer literacy.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, desire to succeed, and readiness to take on challenges.
