Creative Assembly is looking for an Engine QA Analyst to join our team based at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex. As an Engine QA Analyst, you will be an experienced and technically proficient QA practitioner with a strong understanding of game development QA processes and systems. You will specialise in engine and graphics testing, using debug tools and automation techniques to identify a wide range of issues.

Embedded within the Graphics development team, you will focus on testing and validating new engine features and bug fixes before they are deployed across development teams. You will work collaboratively with Core Technology, Tech Art, Tools, and Game QA teams to build a deep understanding of engine systems, workflows, and dependencies. This role requires a proactive individual who can quickly contribute to test planning and execution, build strong stakeholder relationships, and take shared ownership of graphics testing and reporting. You will work across both manual and automated testing, contributing to testing strategies and supporting the long-term stability and quality of our games.

What you’ll be doing

  • Perform detailed testing of new and updated graphics engine features, covering functionality, performance, and stability.
  • Design, execute, and maintain comprehensive test plans tailored to engine features and in-game systems.
  • Conduct milestone test sweeps, identifying regressions, performance issues, and workflow blockers.
  • Collaborate with developers to identify automation opportunities and integrate automated checks into QA processes.
  • Diagnose and triage complex technical issues, producing clear and actionable bug reports and supporting root cause analysis.
  • Work closely with Engine, Tech Art, Tools, and QA teams to understand workflows, dependencies, and potential impact of changes.
  • Act as a point of contact for graphics testing, providing guidance and best practices to stakeholders.
  • Represent Engine QA in graphics meetings and agile ceremonies.
  • Produce clear, concise reporting for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, frameworks, and documentation standards.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Previous experience in a technical QA role within games or a related software testing field.
  • Ability to self-manage workload and proactively identify testing priorities.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience writing clear documentation and reports.
  • Methodical and structured approach to investigating issues and following processes.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.
  • Passion for video games and a desire to contribute to the development process.

Desirable

  • Experience testing game engines or graphics systems.
  • Familiarity with Total War titles.
  • Experience with bug and task tracking tools such as JIRA or TestRail.
  • Experience testing across multiple platforms, including PC and consoles.
  • Knowledge of XR, TRC, and/or Technical Certification requirements.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks or scripting.
