Purpose of Role
The Scenic Production Manager is responsible for the technical solutioning, fabrication approach and delivery of scenic elements within Creation projects. The role owns how scenic assets are designed, built and delivered, providing technical authority on materials, build methods, fabrication sequencing and quality. Working closely with Production Managers, Technical Design and fabrication teams, the Scenic Production Manager maintains close oversight of workshop builds and ensures scenic elements are practical, buildable, cost effective and delivered to the required standard.
What you will be responsible for
- Scenic Solutioning and Technical Authority
- Define appropriate scenic solutions, materials and fabrication methods for each project.
- Assess the feasibility of creative concepts and advise on practical scenic approaches.
- Develop and agree scenic build strategies in collaboration with Technical Design.
- Review drawings, specifications and construction approaches to ensure they are buildable, efficient and compliant.
- Undertake site visits and surveys as required to capture critical technical information and dimensions, assess build feasibility, access constraints and installation methodology, and feed findings into scenic design and fabrication planning.
- Act as the technical authority for scenic elements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Scenic Project Planning and Delivery
- Coordinate scenic delivery from design development through fabrication and installation, working closely with Production Managers to align with overall project delivery requirements.
- Plan and manage scenic scopes across multiple projects, with a focus on workshop based builds.
- Develop fabrication and build schedules aligned with overall project programmes.
- Monitor progress closely within the workshop and across outsourced fabrication.
- Identify scenic risks early and implement mitigation strategies to maintain quality, programme and build efficiency.
- Workshop and Fabrication Interface
- Maintain a strong on site presence within Creation’s workshop.
- Provide day to day leadership, direction and technical oversight to in house fabrication activity.
- Appoint, brief and manage outsourced fabrication partners and specialist scenic suppliers.
- Ensure internal and external fabricators are fully briefed with clear drawings, specifications, schedules and quality expectations.
- Monitor progress, quality and programme across all fabrication activity.
- Act as the primary point of escalation for fabrication issues, changes or risks.
- Ensure scenic assets are delivered ready for installation and aligned with agreed standards.
- Budget and Commercial Support
- Produce accurate scenic estimates, specifications and cost inputs.
- Manage scenic spend within agreed project budgets.
- Track scenic costs and support reconciliation at project close.
- Support Production Managers with technical clarity during budgeting and commercial decision making.
- Quality, Compliance and Site Support
- Implement and maintain quality control across scenic outputs within the workshop and on site.
- Ensure scenic elements meet design intent, technical standards and safety requirements.
- Support site installation, problem solving and quality sign off as required.
- Work collaboratively with Production Managers and Lead Installers during delivery phases.
- Team Collaboration and Flexibility
- Operate as part of the wider Production Management team, supporting colleagues and flexing responsibilities where required to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide additional support across projects during peak workshop or delivery periods.
- Contribute to a collaborative, solution led production culture across Production and Fabrication teams.
What we are looking for
- Proven experience in scenic production, fabrication or build led project management.
- Strong understanding of materials, fabrication processes and construction methods.
- Experience working closely with workshops and managing outsourced fabrication.
- Track record of delivering complex scenic builds from design through to installation.
- Experience producing accurate estimates, specifications and fabrication schedules.
- Highly methodical, detail oriented and technically confident.
- Comfortable taking ownership of workshop led delivery and day to day build progress.
- Practical, pragmatic and solutions focused.
- Confident leading through presence, direction and decision making rather than manual task execution.
- Clear communicator with technical and non technical stakeholders.
Desirable
- Technical design or fabrication background.
- CAD literacy with the ability to read and interrogate drawings and 3D models.
- Experience within experiential, live events, exhibitions or temporary installations.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within workshop and public facing environments.
