CreateFuture is an AI-native consulting partner where people do work that matters and are supported to do it well. We work side by side with our clients, challenging what’s not working and helping them to build the future. Our commitment to craft, quality, and culture has helped us scale to over 600 people in just a few years.

About the role and team:

We are seeking an experienced Lead .NET Engineer to join a team responsible for maintaining, modernising, and evolving a portfolio of business-critical applications and services within a complex enterprise environment. This role is focused on pragmatic modernisation rather than large-scale rewrites. The successful candidate will work across a broad technology landscape that includes legacy .NET applications and services alongside modern cloud-based platforms, helping teams improve, simplify, and evolve existing systems while balancing operational risk, business priorities, and long-term sustainability.

You will work closely with engineering teams, architects, and senior stakeholders, providing hands-on technical leadership and helping shape practical engineering decisions within a highly regulated environment. This role follows a hybrid working model based in Glasgow and requires individuals who are comfortable building trusted relationships with stakeholders while working within established enterprise delivery frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and improve applications and services using .NET technologies and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Work across both legacy and modern technology stacks, supporting the ongoing evolution of existing services.
  • Analyse existing applications and services to identify opportunities for simplification, rationalisation, and modernisation.
  • Contribute to cloud platform improvements and AWS engineering initiatives.
  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform.
  • Support DevOps practices, automation initiatives, and engineering improvements across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver pragmatic technical solutions.
  • Help teams manage scope effectively, balancing technical improvement with delivery objectives.
  • Promote best practices in software engineering, maintainability, operational excellence, and long-term supportability.
  • Support knowledge transfer and documentation activities where domain knowledge may be limited or fragmented.

Required Experience

  • Strong experience as a Lead Software Engineer working within .NET environments.
  • Experience working across both modern .NET and legacy .NET Framework applications.
  • Good understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering automation.
  • Experience working within complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior business and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience analysing and improving existing systems rather than delivering greenfield-only solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to engineering decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively within hybrid delivery teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Pragmatic engineers who can improve systems incrementally rather than seeking wholesale rewrites.
  • Engineers who understand how to deliver incremental improvements, focusing on the right problems rather than attempting wholesale replacement of existing systems.
  • Individuals comfortable navigating legacy codebases and building understanding where documentation or domain knowledge may be limited.
  • T-shaped engineers with strong technical depth alongside architecture awareness and broader business understanding.
  • Engineers who can balance technical excellence with commercial and delivery realities.
  • Team players who contribute positively to engineering culture and stakeholder relationships.
  • Individuals who can establish credibility quickly within a large enterprise environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience modernising legacy enterprise applications and services.
  • Exposure to WCF, WPF, and broader Microsoft technology stacks.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation or platform consolidation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar technologies.
  • Experience working within financial services or other highly regulated environments.

How to prepare for a job interview at CreateFuture

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If CreateFuture uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
