ROLE PURPOSE
The UK Nurse Director is a key member of the UK Leadership Team, serving as the professional nursing lead across all UK clinics. The UK Nurse Director is responsible for nursing governance, clinical quality, workforce leadership and the implementation of nursing protocols that ensure the highest standards of patient safety and care. The UK Nurse Director is accountable for all nursing processes and KPIs across the UK, including the delivery of safe, effective, patient‑centred care and supporting commercially aligned service delivery. This includes line management, development, and performance oversight of nursing teams across the organisation, and close collaboration with Medical Affairs, Operations, HR, and Quality colleagues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership of the national nursing team, including Lead Nurses, Nurse Managers, Fertility Nurses, and other roles introduced as the nursing structure evolves.
- Collaboration with Deputy Medical Director and Medical Affairs colleagues on the development, revision, and updating of clinical and nursing protocols, pathways, and strategic projects.
- Establishment, control and monitoring of nursing processes in line with Group policies to ensure effectiveness, safety and operational consistency.
- Acting as the central representative for the nursing profession in the UK, coordinating communication flows, providing guidance and ensuring nursing alignment across all clinics.
- Collaboration with HR and L&D to deliver continuous professional development, internal training and structured competency pathways for all nursing staff.
- Leadership in the design, execution and improvement of both clinical and non‑clinical processes to reduce patient safety risks and enhance quality of care.
- Promotion of a strong safety culture, ensuring nursing teams understand and adhere to patient safety risk management principles.
- Identification, documentation, reporting and management of patient safety risks, including implementing required actions instructed by Medical Affairs.
- Ensuring full compliance with HFEA, NMC, BFS guidance and other relevant regulatory and professional bodies.
- Oversight of clinical success metrics, supporting underperforming nurses through targeted training, one‑to‑one development, and audit monitoring.
- Support for recruitment through CV screening, interviewing and workforce planning.
- Collaboration with clinics on equipment training, capital expenditure requests and ensuring appropriate nursing resources are maintained.
- Leadership of SOP development updates and implementation, ensuring clinics adopt and deliver all required standards, including training Lead Nurses in SOP compliance.
- Active involvement in IVI Group projects, representing the UK in group‑wide nursing and clinical initiatives.
- Acting as the primary UK contact for data and information requests from Helix or Group functions.
- Participation in leadership activities with CMO / COOs to support overall performance improvement across clinics, including involvement in performance or conduct management relating to nursing staff.
- Quarterly audit of nursing performance data to support quality reviews and clinical improvement plans.
- Contribution to patient pathway optimisation, service efficiency reviews and assessment of workforce capability, resource needs and equipment alignment.
- Review of business cases for nursing‑related equipment and capital expenditure requests with Finance.
- Support for clinic‑level complaint resolution, including resolving local complaints with Clinical Directors and managing serious issues with the Quality and Complaints Director.
- Development and delivery of complaint‑handling training to strengthen nursing team capability.
EXPERIENCE / PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with no restrictions.
- Significant leadership experience within a regulated healthcare environment, ideally within fertility or women’s health.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working within an IVF unit.
- Demonstrable experience implementing clinical protocols, improving patient safety and managing clinical risks.
- Proven track record in leading multi‑site nursing teams and driving performance improvement.
- Experience working with regulatory frameworks including HFEA, NMC, BFS and internal governance structures.
- Competence in workforce development, training frameworks and clinical competency assessment.
- Strong operational understanding with the ability to support commercial and service efficiency objectives.
