We are looking for an English teacher who believes that words matter. Not only in essays and exam responses, but in the way young people learn to express themselves, challenge ideas, and make sense of the world around them. In our classrooms, English is not simply a subject to be completed; it is a place where students test opinions, discover new voices, and learn that language has real power.

Our next colleague will join a thoughtful and collaborative English department that cares deeply about both literature and students. Lessons here might move from Shakespeare to spoken word, from close analysis of a paragraph to a lively debate about a character’s choices. We value teachers who bring clarity to complex ideas and who enjoy helping students grow into confident readers, writers and thinkers.

The successful candidate will teach across Key Stages 3/4, with the possibility of Key Stage 5 depending on experience. You will plan engaging lessons, provide clear and meaningful feedback, and contribute to the wider life of the department and the school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has a strong academic background in English
  • Enjoys teaching literature and language in ways that encourage curiosity and discussion
  • Communicates high expectations with warmth and consistency
  • Works well with colleagues and contributes positively to a shared department culture

Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are very welcome to apply. We are committed to supporting teachers at the start of their careers and provide a structured induction alongside experienced colleagues who are generous with their time, ideas and guidance.

In return, we offer a supportive professional environment, a department that shares ideas and resources generously, and students who bring energy, humour and perspective to the study of English every day. This is a role for a teacher who enjoys the craft of teaching: shaping a lesson carefully, asking the right question at the right moment, and helping students find the words they didn’t yet know they had.

If you would like to join us, we would be delighted to hear from you. We are committed to safeguarding children. Each applicant will be expected to undertake compliance checks including Prohibited list, Barred list, DBS and Qualifications.
