About the Role: We are seeking to recruit a reliable and proactive Premises Assistant to support two well-established primary school sites in Lewisham. The role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in building and facilities maintenance, looking to take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of a busy school environment. The position involves working split shifts across the school year, with some flexibility required for occasional evening events. You will play a vital part in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and efficient running of the school’s premises for both staff and students.

Working Hours are 5 hours per day:

  • Term Time: 6:00am – 11:00am or 1:30pm – 6:30pm (Rotating split shifts you must be available)
  • Holiday Periods: 8:00am – 1:00pm or 11:00am – 4:00pm
  • Some shifts may also run from 7:45am – 12:45pm or 1:15pm – 6:15pm, depending on site needs

There may also be occasional requirements to support school events such as parent evenings, performances, or governor meetings, typically no more than three additional hours per instance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting regular checks and maintenance of school buildings and grounds
  • Ensuring security of the site, including locking/unlocking procedures
  • Supporting health and safety standards and procedures
  • Completing minor repairs and liaising with contractors where necessary
  • Assisting with the preparation of school spaces for events
  • Monitoring cleaning standards and ensuring site cleanliness
  • Managing waste and recycling
  • Responding to emergencies and urgent site matters

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience in a premises or facilities assistant role (school experience desirable but not essential)
  • Strong practical skills in minor maintenance, repairs and general upkeep
  • Good knowledge of health and safety standards
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage time effectively
  • Willing to work flexibly to meet the needs of the site
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Holds a valid Enhanced DBS (or is willing to obtain one)
