We are working with a lovely 2-form entry primary school in Peckham that is seeking a dedicated Year 5 Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately for the summer term. About the Role
As a Year 5 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils’ learning and development. The role will involve supporting children with additional needs, leading small-group interventions, and helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Support pupils in a Year 5 class with their learning and development
- Provide targeted SEN support to pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Lead small-group intervention sessions in literacy and numeracy
- Assist the class teacher with lesson preparation and classroom organisation
- Help pupils stay engaged, focused, and motivated during lessons
- Support pupils with routines, transitions, and positive behaviour strategies
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and wider school staff
What We’re Looking For
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grades 4–9)
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant in a primary school
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN is essential
- Confidence leading small-group interventions
- A positive, patient, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and well-being
