Head of Science Department at a high-performing and forward-thinking secondary school in East London, starting September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Science teacher or current middle leader who is passionate about raising attainment, driving innovation in teaching and learning, and leading a team to achieve outstanding student outcomes.

The Role

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Science department across KS3 and KS4
  • Raise attainment and ensure excellent progress for all students
  • Support, mentor, and develop a team of Science teachers
  • Design and implement a high-quality Science curriculum
  • Monitor teaching, learning, assessment, and data across the department
  • Analyse student performance data and implement targeted intervention strategies
  • Ensure high standards of behaviour, engagement, and achievement in Science lessons
  • Work closely with senior leadership to drive whole-school improvement priorities
  • Promote a culture of excellence, curiosity, and ambition within Science

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience teaching Science at secondary level (KS3 & KS4 essential)
  • Previous leadership experience within a Science department (or strong aspiration to step into leadership)
  • Strong understanding of curriculum planning and assessment
  • Proven ability to improve student outcomes and progress
  • Excellent behaviour management and classroom leadership skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive improvement
  • A passion for Science and inspiring young people
