Do you thrive in hands-on environments where learning extends beyond the classroom and into the community? We are working in partnership with a specialist Further Education setting for young people aged 19–25 with autism and additional needs, to recruit confident and proactive Teaching Assistants.
More than a classroom role
This is not a traditional Teaching Assistant position. A key part of the role is supporting learners on a 1:1 basis in the community, helping them access work experience and build independence. You may be:
- Supporting a learner at a café or work placement
- Accompanying students to local shops or community settings
- Helping learners use public transport safely and confidently
- Building confidence in real-world social and work environments
This role requires confidence, initiative, and a strong belief in every learner’s potential.

This specialist provision focuses on preparing learners for independent adult life and employment through personalised programmes. The environment includes:

Your impact
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support across sessions
- Support learners in community-based activities and work experience
- Help build confidence, independence, and employability skills
- Accompany learners on off-site visits and support travel training
- Encourage communication and emotional regulation
- Support functional skills (English, Maths, ICT) in practical ways
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners
- Work closely with staff to track and support progress
What we’re looking for
- Experience supporting individuals with autism is essential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Confidence working 1:1 and in community settings
- Ability to adapt and think on your feet
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for supporting independence and life skills
