Create Education is looking for a caring, patient and reliable Male SEN Teaching Assistant/Co-Educator to join a welcoming specialist SEN school in Barking.
The role
The students may have needs including:
- Autism and sensory processing needs
- Severe learning difficulties
- Profound and multiple learning difficulties
- Speech, language and communication needs
- Limited or non-verbal communication
- Physical disabilities and mobility needs
- Medical and personal care needs
- Social, emotional and behavioural needsThe role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Year 13 students individually and in small groups
- Helping students participate in learning and personalised activities
- Supporting the development of communication, social and independence skills
- Using visual aids, symbols and other communication systems when required
- Supporting students with routines, transitions and emotional regulation
- Encouraging students to make choices and become as independent as possible
- Providing mobility and physical support in line with individual care plans
- Assisting with personal and intimate care while always protecting each studentβs dignity, privacy and wellbeing
- Supporting students during breaktimes, lunchtimes and activities outside the classroom
- Following safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour-support and medical procedures
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and other support staff
About you
- Be male due to the personal and intimate care requirements of the pupils supported
- Be comfortable and willing to provide respectful personal and intimate care
- Be caring, patient, calm and emotionally resilient
- Have a genuine interest in supporting young people with complex needs
- Be confident supporting students with limited or non-verbal communication
- Be able to follow individual care plans and school procedures
- Be willing to complete any training required by the school
- Be available full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:30am until 4:00pm
- Be able to commit to an ongoing placement
- Have an enhanced child workforce DBS registered with the Update Service or be willing to apply for a new one
- Previous experience in an SEN school, care setting, healthcare environment or support-work role would be highly beneficial. However, applications are also welcomed from candidates with relevant transferable skills, a compassionate approach and a genuine willingness to learn.
