Reporting to the Lead Manufacturing & Production Engineer, the Manufacturing Design Engineerwill support the engineering and production departments by maintaining and developing accurate 3D CAD models / manufacturing drawings (Solid Works), and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for standard and project-specific equipment.
Working closely with Design, Production and Workshop personnel, the role is responsible for supporting the manufacture, assembly, commissioning and ongoing refurbishment of specialist pipeline equipment by producing accurate engineering documentation, implementing engineering changes and driving continuous improvement through practical design modifications.
The role will validate existing CAD models against completed equipment, support workshop build activities, maintain engineering documentation and ensure all CAD data, drawings and BOMs are revision controlled within the Company's PDM system.
The role also plays an important part in improving engineering standards by supporting the ongoing development of the Company's CAD library, engineering documentation, configuration control processes and 3DEXPERIENCE PDM environment.

- Role specific responsibilities
- Engineering & Manufacturing Support
- Configure and maintain 3D CAD models of standard and project-specific equipment using Solid Works.
- Create and issue equipment specification check sheets for production equipment builds
- Produce detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings in accordance with BS 8888.
- Produce, maintain and revise Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOMs) and Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs).
- Validate legacy CAD models and drawings by cross-referencing completed production equipment and implementing corrections where required.
- Support workshop technicians during equipment builds by providing engineering guidance, manufacturing drawings and resolving build-related queries.
- Produce assembly instructions, work instructions, refurbishment procedures and servicing documentation.
- Generate and maintain refurbishment kit list.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing equipment through practical engineering modifications.
- Implement minor mechanical design improvements to improve manufacturability, reliability, maintainability and assembly efficiency.
- Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) initiatives.
- Work with Production and Workshop personnel to eliminate recurring build issues.
- Assist in reducing production downtime through engineering improvements.
- Review production processes, manufacturing methods, equipment utilisation, waste and cycle times to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives across the department.
- Review Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
- Ensure all engineering documentation is revision controlled and accurately maintained.
- Maintain configuration integrity between CAD models, drawings, BOMs and manufactured equipment.
- Support the ongoing implementation and administration of the Company's 3DEXPERIENCE PDM system.
- Validate CAD assemblies before release into PDM, ensuring correct assembly structures, part numbering, custom properties and revision status.
- Assist in maintaining engineering standards, CAD templates, naming conventions and drawing consistency.
- Support ongoing improvement of engineering data quality through management of legacy CAD data and controlled engineering documentation.
- Workshop & Production Support
- Work closely with Workshop Technicians throughout equipment manufacture and refurbishment.
- Respond to workshop engineering queries and implement agreed design improvements.
- Produce build-specific documentation to support manufacture and assembly.
- Coordinate maintenance documentation and engineering support for production equipment.
- Liaise with Purchasing, Production and Design to ensure engineering documentation remains accurate throughout the product lifecycle.
Education Required
- Engineering based Degree or equivalent HNC/HND 2:2 or above
Work Experience Required
- Experience using 3D CAD software (preferably Solid Works) for modelling, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
- Experience producing engineering drawings to recognised standards (BS 8888 preferred).
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Experience supporting manufacturing or workshop environments.
- Experience implementing engineering changes and maintaining revision-controlled documentation.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques and mechanical assemblies.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with special purpose machinery, capital equipment or industrial process equipment.
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (3DEXPERIENCE desirable).
- Experience supporting refurbishment, servicing or aftermarket engineering.
- Experience of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Experience of ERP systems integrated with engineering BOMs.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Strong Solid Works modelling, assembly and drawing skills.
