We would like to hear from experienced structural defect experts interested in joining our clients well-established, independent and growing team of property professionals. This would suit civil engineers or structural engineers with an interest in specific structural defect inspections.

The role involves carrying out structural defect analysis surveys and structural calculations across a wide range of residential projects, with opportunities to get involved in commercial work if desired. Your role will include beam calculations and specific structural investigations of building defects such as subsidence, cracking, roofing and chimney defects, and other structural inspections.

Our client also carries out commercial property structural engineering work, and the role can be expanded to incorporate roof load assessments, mezzanine calculations and design, steel frame design and structural inspections of commercial buildings. This position would suit someone from a civil engineering or structural engineering background, looking for more control over their work life, varied assignments and an excellent work-life balance.

Working with a multi-disciplined team, you will have support from people with a wide range of experience and expertise, to help you deliver the best quality work. This provides an opportunity to facilitate your own career progression by learning from different specialisms.

The person we are looking for should have the experience needed to work independently to a high standard, with demonstrable experience over a number of years in preparing defect reports for all types of residential properties. You need to have a recognised engineering or surveying degree and preferably be chartered with a professional institution. You must be confident and competent in managing projects independently, with a thorough understanding of how the structure and fabric of buildings are put together, what can go wrong and how they can be affected by previous alterations and change of use.

You will have experience of:

  • a wide range of structural and building defects - for example: subsidence investigations, checking integrity of building works, assessing non-standard constructions
  • preparing and presenting technically robust reports
  • providing clear, concise, justified conclusions
  • working independently and within a team structure
  • liaising with clients, both verbally and through written correspondence

Remuneration includes a salary of approx. £45-55K, depending on experience. This is a diverse role with excellent opportunities for career progression; partnership is a possibility for the right person. You will benefit from a supportive network of in-house professionals, support with career progression and chartership, and flexible and generous packages to suit you. These typically include (but are not limited to):

  • flexible working and working from home
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • life and health insurance
  • car allowance
  • payment of professional subscriptions and support with CPD
  • provision of all engineering and home office equipment
  • pension contribution
  • enhanced parental leave

A full UK driving licence is required. As an independent company, they have the flexibility to design a package to meet your needs. Whether you want flexible working, or the chance to try something different, we can make it work. The role is home-based and the exact patch will be tailored to the candidate's home location.
