We would like to hear from experienced structural defect experts interested in joining our clients well-established, independent and growing team of property professionals. This would suit civil engineers or structural engineers with an interest in specific structural defect inspections.
You will be carrying out structural defect analysis surveys and structural calculations across a wide range of residential projects, with opportunities to get involved in commercial work if desired. Your role will include beam calculations and specific structural investigations of building defects such as subsidence, cracking, roofing and chimney defects, and other structural inspections. Our client carries out commercial property structural engineering work too, the role can be expanded to incorporate roof load assessments, mezzanine calculations and design, steel frame design and structural inspections of commercial buildings.
The role would suit someone from a civil engineering or structural engineering background, looking for more control over their work life, varied assignments and an excellent work-life balance. We are looking for someone with the experience needed to work independently to a high standard, with demonstrable experience over a number of years in preparing defect reports for all types of residential properties. You need to have a recognised engineering or surveying degree and preferably be chartered with a professional institution. You need to be confident and competent in managing projects independently. Furthermore, you must have a thorough understanding of how the structure and fabric of buildings are put together, what can go wrong and how they can be affected by previous alterations and change of use.
You will have experience of:
- a wide range of structural and building defects - for example: subsidence investigations, checking integrity of building works, assessing non-standard constructions
- preparing and presenting technically robust reports
- providing clear, concise, justified conclusions
- working independently and within a team structure
- liaising with clients, both verbally and through written correspondence
