Are you passionate about trees, urban green spaces, and making a lasting impact on your local environment? We are seeking a dedicated Arboricultural Officer to join our team and help manage and enhance our town’s diverse tree stock across parks, open spaces, public and housing land.
As Arboricultural Officer, you will play a key role in:
- inspecting and assessing the health and safety of trees across the borough
- managing tree works and contracts, ensuring compliance with best practice and legislation
- advising on insurance and development proposals affecting trees
- supporting biodiversity and climate resilience through sustainable tree management
- co-ordinating the delivery of tree planting schemes and biodiversity initiatives
- engaging with residents, contractors, and internal teams to promote tree care and awareness
- providing advice, guidance and support to colleagues within the council to deliver tree works and enhance the safety of Crawley residents
We are looking for someone who has:
- a recognised qualification in arboriculture or a related field, preferably to National Certificate level
- thorough knowledge of tree biology, pests and diseases, and relevant legislation
- experience in tree surveying and using GIS or tree management software
- excellent IT and report writing skills
- a proactive, collaborative person who is passionate about Crawley and efficient service delivery
- a resilient individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- a confident, assertive communicator who can solve problems and make decisions
Additional information:
- Working hours are 7:00 to 15:00 Monday to Thursday, and 7:00 to 14:30 Friday. A flexible approach to these hours based on the demand of the service is expected and a TOIL system is in place to cover any extra hours worked. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required.
- A full and current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role and Essential User Car user allowance is payable.
